Connaught Crosses by Rhys Works
Rhys is 10 years old and really passionate about reviving traditional Irish crafts.
Usually made with straw or rushes, Rhys makes the cross with wool and sticks which can be customised to colour, size and style either on a single or quadruple cross. Prices range €3 small €5 medium €7 large single cross, quadruple cross €10.
A beautiful traditional decorative feature for any home especially a new home and/or new baby to bring good luck and invite St Brighids blessings.
The diamond or lozenge style cross was made in all 4 provinces of Ireland mainly in Connaught, Munster, in counties Donegal, Monaghan and Armagh in Ulster.
The making of these crosses dates back to the late 17th century made by women and children as part of a celebration and feast to honor St Brighid and gain her protection against fire, flood, famine, lightning, evil spirits and epidemic
