Keeping you warm in style - that's the motto of mother daughter team Maureen and Eimear King, the women behind Kings Irish Handknits, a gorgeous collection of stylish handknitted accessories based right here in Galway.
With a long-time love of knitting, Maureen passed down her skills to daughter Eimear and together they now make a variety of handknitted hats, headbands, snoods and mittens in fabulous colours and styles.
Originally from Connemara, Maureen has been hand knitting all her life. Recently retired, knitting is a constant passion, and she can always be found with a pair of needles in hand.
Eimear, watching her mother from an early age clicking away with her knitting needles, quickly took after her, and now enjoys handknitting a diverse range of different garments. Working as an engineer for many years, Eimear always finds time for the relaxing and therapeutic craft of knitting, which they have now turned into a thriving business.
“We decided to start our little business, like many others, during 2020. It has been extremely rewarding and enjoyable and we’re so happy we made the move to start.”
Kings Handmade Knits include headbands and hats made sustainably from 100% Irish Donegal yarn, as well as a beautiful range of snoods, hats and mittens handknitted from an alpaca, merino wool and cotton mix. The pieces come in a range of styles, utilising some of the many traditional Irish knitting stitches, including the Aran Cable stitch, Irish Moss and the Irish Mesh stitch.
